Prof. Dr. med. Kirsten R. Müller-Vahl is a graduate of Hannover Medical School (MHH). She is a specialist in neurology (since 1999) and psychiatry (since 2006), a senior physician since 2006 and, since 2018, executive senior physician at the MHH Department of Psychiatry, Social Psychiatry and Psychotherapy.

Since 1994 she has led the Tourette outpatient clinic and the Tourette syndrome research group. Her scientific focus includes Tourette syndrome, tic disorders, dissociative movement disorders and cannabis as medicine.

She completed her habilitation in 2003 on the treatment of Tourette patients with delta-9-THC and leads numerous clinical trials on cannabinoids, including randomized controlled trials on nabiximols (CANNA-TICS) and modulators of the endocannabinoid system in tic disorders.

Müller-Vahl is chairwoman of the Association for Cannabis as Medicine (ACM) and the International Association for Cannabinoid Medicines (IACM), a member of the Expert Committee on Narcotics at the BfArM, and has served several times as an expert witness in the Bundestag on cannabis legislation.

She has authored more than 200 publications and is an author of guidelines on tic disorders.
